This four-story, 440-bed student housing complex is located on a sloping 3.26 acre urban site adjacent to one of North Carolina State University’s main entrances. It was developed and constructed by JPI for the Wolfpack Club, NC State’s Athletic Booster organization. Constructed of wood framing, the high density required for the College Inn is achieved by maximizing floor plates through the use of code-prescribed “area increase” formulas and non-masonry firewalls that allow multiple buildings to be “joined” together, forming one large interconnected complex. An integrated clubhouse / leasing facility serves as a focal point at the site’s entry and includes a large residents’ gathering space that overlooks the outdoor pool. The four-level, 393-car parking deck is structured of castellated steel, which was more economical to construct than pre-cast concrete.
